Agar powder is a type of algin extracted from Gracilaria and other red algae. It has a history of more than 300 years in my country and Japan. Application Overview: Agar is widely used in microbiology as a solidifying agent for microbial culture media. It is a polysaccharide extracted from seaweed, primarily composed of agarose. Agar is essentially an inert substance, making it an ideal material for microbial culture media as it does not interfere with microbial growth.

 

Product Applications:

1. Agar can solidify culture media, allowing microorganisms to grow in a solid environment, promoting the formation of different colonies, and selectively isolating specific microorganisms;

2. It can be used to prepare selective and differentiated culture media, which can provide additional nutrients or other chemicals to selectively promote or inhibit the growth of specific microorganisms. Agar is autoclaved, poured into petri dishes, cooled, and solidified to form a microbial growth surface.
