BASF’s New comprehensive thermal insulation products

BASF SE (abbreviated BASF), derived from its former full name, Badische Anilin-und-Soda-Fabrik (Baden Aniline and Soda Factory), is a German chemical company.

The BASF Group has over 160 wholly-owned subsidiaries and joint ventures in 41 countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, making it the world’s largest chemical production base by plant area.

BASF’s building insulation materials mainly include polyurethane, EPS, aerogel, etc.

Polyurethane products include ENERTITE®, Elastospray®, Elastocool®, Elastopir®, Elastopor®, etc.

ENERTITE® is a low-density, open-cell spray polyurethane foam (SPF) insulation. Applied in liquid form, it rapidly expands to several times its original size after full water expansion, completely filling the cavity. ENERTITE® flows easily through hard-to-reach areas like pipes and wiring, creating a seamless seal.

ENERTITE®

Elastospray® polyurethane spray foam system not only provides reliable thermal insulation but also allows for seamless application. It can be applied to any surface, whether it is slopes, walls, roofs or floors.

Elastospray®

Elastocool® is a polyurethane rigid foam system with a high-quality closed-cell structure for thermal insulation in refrigerators and freezers.

Elastopir® is a polyurethane rigid foam system developed by BASF based on polyisocyanurate (PIR). It was developed to meet the growing demand for fire protection in composite panels, helping customers build energy-efficient and safe industrial buildings and cold storage facilities. In residential buildings, it can also be used in soft-face insulation panels (aluminum foil or mineral wool facing with an Elastopir® core), primarily for insulating pitched and flat roofs, as well as cavity walls and floors.

Elastopor® offers an excellent combination of mechanical, physical, and thermal insulation properties through sandwich technology and sandwich panels made from Elastopor® and Elastopir® materials. Elastopor® is often used as the core material in multi-story buildings. It can also be combined with diffusion-resistant metal cladding for walls, floors, and roofs in buildings such as industrial plants, refrigeration units, and warehouses. Metal composite components are produced using continuous (double belt) and discontinuous (stamping) processes. Insulating components with flexible cladding, such as aluminum foil, mineral fleece, and an Elastopor® core, are also used in residential construction. Key applications include pitched and flat roofs, as well as insulation for exterior walls and floors. Elastopor® rigid plastic systems offer simple processing and high product quality. Polyurethane insulation products with multiple laminates and functional layers offer significant benefits for both manufacturers and consumers. These energy-saving insulation materials contribute positively to climate protection.

Elastopor®

BASF’s EPS products include Neopor® and others.

Neopor® outperforms traditional white EPS boards and sets a higher quality standard for EPS boards, providing effective thermal insulation for both new and existing buildings. Neopor® can be foamed into insulation boards and molded components, and is widely used for thermal insulation in building walls and roofs, as well as soundproofing in floors. Using a high-molecular-weight polymer flame retardant, Neopor® offers excellent fire resistance and outstanding, stable thermal insulation properties, reducing cooling and heating costs while significantly contributing to environmental protection and home health.

BASF’s aerogel products include SLENTEX®.

SLENTEX®—an innovative Class A thermal insulation material—represents the most advanced flame-retardant insulation technology with its unique combination of industry-leading thermal insulation performance and flame retardancy, significantly lower than conventional insulation materials. Developed to meet unique application requirements within the building materials industry, its applications include exterior wall systems, thermal bridges, and transition zones. This new insulation product also has broad applications beyond building materials, such as pipe insulation.
