Ureapropyltrimethoxysilane is a silane coupling agent containing a urea functional group. At room temperature, it is typically a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with an alcohol-like odor.
As a high-performance organosilicon compound, ureapropyltrimethoxysilane combines the hydrophilicity of silane coupling agents with the reactivity of a urea group. Its molecular structure contains a hydrolyzable trimethoxysilane group and a stable urea functional group. This allows it to react with hydroxyl groups on the surfaces of inorganic materials such as glass and metals to form chemical bonds, and it can also react with or be physically compatible with organic materials such as epoxy resins and polyurethanes. Therefore, it is widely used in rust prevention treatment of metal surfaces, reinforcement of polymer composites, adhesion promotion of coatings and adhesives, and modification of casting resins.

Ureapropyltrimethoxysilane is a highly efficient rust inhibitor for metal surfaces, particularly suitable for surface treatment of non-ferrous metals such as gold, silver, and copper, and their alloys. It significantly improves the corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance of metal surfaces, and is widely used in the preparation of rust-preventive primers and chemical conversion solutions, replacing traditional phosphating treatments with the advantages of being environmentally friendly and free of heavy metal pollution.
This coupling agent is widely used in the modification of filled polymer materials. In the field of composite materials, it is used in glass fiber reinforced plastics (FRP) and mineral-filled plastics, significantly improving the tensile strength, flexural strength, and impact strength of composite materials.<sup>1</sup> In the rubber industry, it can be used in natural rubber (NR), styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), nitrile rubber (NBR), and polyurethane rubber, improving the abrasion resistance, tear strength, and reducing permanent deformation. Furthermore, it can be used to modify epoxy resins, phenolic resins, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and polystyrene (PS), improving their processing fluidity and weather resistance.
In resin sand casting (such as cold box casting), ureapropyltrimethoxysilane can be used as a binder additive, significantly improving the strength and moisture resistance of molding sand, reducing resin usage and gas generation, thereby improving casting quality. In the adhesives and sealants industry, it is added as an adhesion promoter to products, effectively improving their bonding strength to low surface energy substrates such as glass, ceramics, and metals. In the coatings industry, it is used to improve the scrub resistance, water resistance, and weather resistance of coatings, extending the service life of the coating.
