Carbomer resin is an acrylic polymer containing polyolefin polyether crosslinking. It is a white, loose powder with strong hygroscopic properties. Due to the presence of carboxyl groups in its molecular structure, it possesses a certain degree of acidity and can be neutralized with alkaline substances to form a transparent gel. When carbomer resin is neutralized and the carboxyl groups are ionized, the repulsive effect of the negative charges causes the molecular chains to disperse and extend, resulting in a highly swollen and viscous state.

Carbomer resin produces a highly efficient thickening effect even at very low concentrations. It can impart specific yield values and rheological properties to liquid systems, and even at very low concentrations, it can permanently suspend some insoluble additives (particles, oil droplets, etc.). Due to its strong suspending ability, carbomer resin is widely used to stabilize traditional oil/water emulsions and creams, oil droplets in suspensions, and water-insoluble substances.
