Color Developer CD-4 is a chemical substance utilized in the field of color photography. Its full chemical name is 4-amino-N-ethyl-N-(beta-methanesulfonamidoethyl)-m-toluidine sulfate. CD-4 is an organic compound belonging to the p-aminophenol class; its primary function is to reduce exposed silver halide crystals to metallic silver, while simultaneously coupling the resulting oxidation products with color couplers to form dyes. In this manner, the color development of color-sensitive photographic materials is achieved.

Function

The primary application areas for CD-4 are concentrated in color film processing laboratories within film production studios, photography workshops, and similar facilities. In these settings, CD-4 is combined with other developers, preservatives, buffering agents, and additives to formulate color developing solutions used for processing color film. Through a series of processing steps—including developing, fixing, and washing—clear, vivid color images are rendered on the film.
