Methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane, abbreviated as MOS, is a key organosilicon intermediate primarily used as a cross-linking agent for room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV-1) silicone rubber. At room temperature, it is a colorless to pale yellow transparent liquid with unique chemical properties; upon contact with water or atmospheric moisture, it undergoes hydrolysis to release methyl ethyl ketoxime and form silanol groups, which subsequently react with polysiloxanes via condensation to achieve curing. Because the by-products released during curing have a mild odor and low corrosivity toward metals, MOS is widely used in neutral silicone sealants and adhesives, making it particularly suitable for applications requiring high standards of environmental safety and safety performance.

Preparation method
In industry, methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane is typically produced via an alcohol-exchange reaction between methyltrimethoxysilane and methyl ethyl ketoxime. The reaction is generally conducted using a catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid, with the temperature maintained between 65°C and 153°C. High-purity product is obtained by recovering the by-product methanol and excess methyl ethyl ketoxime through reduced-pressure distillation. This process is well-established, achieving yields exceeding 97% and product purity greater than 98%.
Methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane is the primary cross-linking agent for oxime-curing, one-component room-temperature vulcanizing (RTV-1) silicone rubber. It can be used either alone or in combination with other oxime-functional silanes (such as vinyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane) to adjust the curing rate and physical properties of the sealant.
Methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane is widely used in the production of neutral-cure silicone sealants for applications in construction, automotive manufacturing, and electronics. Because the by-products released during curing are non-corrosive to metals, it is particularly suitable for sealing and bonding metal components. Additionally, it serves as an adhesion promoter for bonding silicone rubber to substrates such as plastics, nylon, ceramics, and glass, significantly enhancing bond strength.
