Oleamide is a long-chain unsaturated fatty acid amide and a type of non-ionic surfactant with the chemical formula C₁₈H₃₅NO. It typically appears as a white waxy solid or powder and exhibits excellent lubricating, slip, anti-blocking, and antistatic properties. In the plastics industry, oleamide is widely used as an opening agent and slip agent for films made of materials such as polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), effectively reducing the coefficient of friction and enhancing processing efficiency. Additionally, it finds applications in cosmetics, textile auxiliaries, inks, and metal anti-rust products. As a high-performance and relatively safe additive, oleamide has obtained relevant safety certifications and is suitable for use in food packaging materials.

In plastic processing, oleamide is one of the most widely used slip agents and anti-blocking agents. Adding 0.1%–0.5% oleamide to films such as low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) significantly reduces the surface coefficient of friction, prevents film blocking, and improves opening properties, thereby meeting the requirements of high-speed automatic packaging machines. As an internal lubricant, it lowers polymer melt viscosity, improves flowability, and reduces processing energy consumption. It also serves as a mold release agent for injection and blow molding, facilitating easy demolding and resulting in a superior surface finish. Additionally, oleamide offers antistatic properties, reducing dust accumulation on the surface of plastic products.
Oleamide possesses excellent wetting and lubricating properties, making it a common ingredient in personal care products. When added to lotions, creams, and lipsticks, it provides moisturizing and protective benefits, leaving the skin feeling soft and smooth while aiding the penetration of other ingredients. In the synthetic fiber industry, oleamide is used as a component in fiber finishing agents, acting as a softener and water-repellent. It improves the hand-feel of fibers, reduces static electricity, and prevents fiber tangling.
In ink production, the addition of oleamide improves printing performance and enhances water, scuff, and abrasion resistance, resulting in clear, vibrant prints. It also serves as a rust inhibitor and protective coating for metals, preventing surface oxidation and corrosion. In the manufacture of dyes and pigments, oleamide functions as a dispersing agent, preventing sedimentation and improving dispersion uniformity.
