QM-9798 is an aluminum powder passivation dispersant that can passivate ordinary oily aluminum powder for use in water-based coatings, reducing production costs and improving the appearance of aluminum powder.
Product Overview:
The common method for water-based aluminum pigments mainly involves coating the surface of the aluminum pigment with silica. However, water-based aluminum powder produced using this technique suffers from weak metallic effect, insufficient hiding power, poor appearance, and high cost. QM-9798 can be directly applied to ordinary oil-based aluminum powder, coating and protecting the powder to prevent gas generation in water. This simplifies and effectively utilizes ordinary oil-based aluminum powder in water-based systems, significantly reducing formulation costs and resolving appearance issues.
Physicochemical Parameters:
Composition: Special pyrrolidone compound
Appearance: Yellow transparent liquid
Active component: 85%
Solvent: Isobutanol
Acid value: 25 mg KOH/g
Product Characteristics:
It encapsulates and protects oil-based aluminum powder, enabling its application in water-based coatings without blackening or gas formation;
It exhibits excellent water resistance, acid and alkali resistance, and adhesion. It retains the original brightness, shimmer, and hiding power of the oil-based aluminum powder;
It significantly reduces the production cost of water-based coatings and offers good storage stability.
Application Systems:
Suitable for water-based and water-soluble systems, such as water-based automotive paints, water-based plastic paints, and water-based metal baking paints.
Recommended Dosage:
The recommended addition amount of paint is 10-15% of the aluminum powder weight; for coarse silver powder (particle size exceeding 40 microns), the recommended addition amount is 10-12% of the aluminum powder weight; for fine silver powder (particle size less than 20 microns), the recommended addition amount is approximately 15% of the aluminum powder weight. Usage: Add QM-9798 to a solvent such as ethylene glycol butyl ether or NMP (N-methylpyrrolidone), stir until homogeneous, then add the oily aluminum powder, stir slowly until homogeneous, and soak for at least 2 hours. Then add the resin, adjust the pH to 8-8.5, and allow the finished coating to stand overnight before packaging to release the reaction gases.
Packaging and Storage:
25kg/drum or 200kg/drum.
The product should be stored in a cool, ventilated place. Unopened, the shelf life is 12 months from the date of production.
