Sodium methyl silicate is an organosilicon-based building waterproofing material with the chemical formula CH₅SiO₃Na. It typically exists as a colorless or pale yellow liquid and possesses excellent permeability and hydrophobicity. As a first-generation organosilicon waterproofing agent, its active silanol groups in its molecular structure react with the silanol groups in silicate materials to form a network of organosilicon resin film, thereby achieving a “reverse capillary effect” and effectively preventing water intrusion. Due to its good water solubility, low price, and ease of use, sodium methyl silicate is widely used in building waterproofing, oil drilling, and environmental protection.

Building waterproofing is the largest application market for sodium methylsilicate. It is widely used for waterproofing and damp-proofing roofs, walls, floors, bathrooms, kitchens, basements, and other areas. As an additive to concrete and mortar, it significantly improves the impermeability of buildings. Furthermore, it can be used to treat materials such as stone, bricks, and glass wool, improving their weather resistance and strength.
In the oil drilling industry, sodium methylsilicate is used as an additive in drilling fluids. It can adjust the viscosity and density of the drilling mud, effectively preventing wellbore collapse, improving drilling speed and safety, and reducing drilling costs.
