Polyoxyethylene tallow amine ether is a non-ionic surfactant synthesized through the polymerization of tallow amine and ethylene oxide; it typically appears as a pale yellow to yellow liquid or solid.
Its most distinctive characteristic lies in its pH-responsive properties: it behaves as a non-ionic substance in alkaline or neutral media, yet becomes protonated—and thus cationic—in acidic media. This capacity for intelligent transformation enables it to perform effectively across a wide range of application environments.

1. Primarily used as a leveling agent for acidic metal-complex dyes; it helps reduce the amount of sulfuric acid required in the dye bath, thereby minimizing damage to fabric strength. It can also serve as a leveling agent for neutral and vat dyes. It effectively controls the initial rate of dye uptake and dye migration, while facilitating rapid dyeing processes at high temperatures.
2. When used as a leveling agent for wool, linen, silk, and synthetic fibers, increasing its concentration transforms it into an ideal stripping agent. It functions as a stripping agent for wool and nylon fabrics—specifically for wool stripping and level-dyeing applications—improving the fabric’s overall appearance. Furthermore, in the dyeing and printing of ice dyes (azoic dyes), it enhances the fabric’s abrasion fastness.
3. Used as an additive in the production of viscose tire cord to enhance cord strength, improve the filterability of the viscose solution and the overall processing workflow, and boost the tenacity of individual cord filaments. This results in a reduction of approximately 20–40% in the frequency of spinneret replacements.
4. Employed in the textile industry as an emulsifier, antistatic agent, and dispersant.
5. Within the textile dyeing and printing industry, it serves as a detergent, emulsifier, dispersant, desizing agent, antistatic agent, and softener. When added to the raw viscose solution, it improves filterability and prevents filament adhesion; during the alkalization stage, it significantly reduces electrical load requirements and enhances the fluffiness and dispersibility of the alkali cellulose fibers.
