3-Isocyanatopropyltrimethoxysilane is an organosilicon compound containing an isocyanate group and a trimethoxysilyl group. Its unique molecular structure, with a highly reactive isocyanate group at one end and a hydrolyzable silaneoxy group at the other, allows it to react chemically with both organic polymers and inorganic substrates, thus forming a strong chemical bond bridge between them.
As a high-performance silane coupling agent, this substance has wide applications in industry. It is particularly suitable for addressing the interfacial bonding problems between organic materials such as polyurethane and epoxy resins and inorganic materials such as glass, metals, and ceramics. In the manufacture of adhesives, sealants, coatings, and composite materials, it can significantly improve the wet adhesion, weather resistance, and durability of products. Furthermore, due to its sensitivity to moisture, it is also frequently used as an additive in lithium-ion battery electrolytes to remove trace amounts of moisture and improve battery cycle stability.

Function
As a high-performance adhesion promoter and crosslinking agent, this substance is widely used in structural adhesives and sealants such as polyurethane (PU), epoxy, and silicone. It significantly improves the adhesion and water resistance of adhesives to substrates such as glass, metals (especially aluminum), and plastics, and is commonly used in applications requiring extremely high durability, such as automotive glass assembly and building curtain wall sealing.
In plastic coatings (such as automotive interior coatings) and industrial coatings, it improves the adhesion of coatings to difficult-to-bond plastic surfaces such as PP and nylon, preventing coating peeling and blistering. Furthermore, it can be used to modify polyurethane resins, improving their heat resistance and hydrolysis resistance.
This substance is used for the surface treatment of inorganic fibers such as glass fiber and carbon fiber, as well as the surface modification of inorganic fillers (such as talc and calcium carbonate). The treated fibers and fillers can better wet the resin matrix, improving the mechanical strength, dimensional stability, and aging resistance of the composite material.
