Methyltrimethoxysilane—abbreviated as “Trimethoxy” or MTMS—features a molecular structure containing one low-surface-energy methyl group and three readily hydrolyzable methoxy groups.
In the presence of water, the methoxy groups of MTMS undergo hydrolysis and detach, generating reactive Si-OH groups. These active Si-OH groups subsequently undergo self-condensation or condense with hydroxyl groups present on the material’s surface, thereby forming covalent bonds. The methyl group within MTMS is a relatively stable functional group, contributing to the enhancement of the material’s mechanical strength, thermal stability, moisture resistance, and other properties.

As a Cross-linking Agent in Room-Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) Silicone Rubber: Offering excellent heat resistance, cold resistance, electrical insulation, and elastic recovery, it is widely utilized in applications such as sealing, bonding, coating, and the protection of electronic components.
