3-(N-Cyclohexylamino)propyltrimethoxysilane contains hydrolyzable alkoxy groups (a trimethoxysilane moiety) and a highly reactive amino functional group. This enables it to undergo chemical reactions with a variety of species, such as hydrogen halides, carboxylic acids, esters, aldehydes, ketones, alkyl halides, and unsaturated double bonds.

Due to the steric hindrance affecting the secondary amino group in the molecule, the reactivity of the active hydrogen on the amino group is reduced, thereby enhancing properties such as flexibility, hydrophilicity, and stain resistance.

As the hydrolyzable group in this compound is a trimethoxysilane moiety, its hydrolysis rate is significantly faster than that of triethoxysilane, resulting in quicker reaction and curing speeds; however, the byproduct of the hydrolysis reaction is methanol, making it slightly less environmentally friendly.

1. Used as an additive or formulated into a primer for coatings, inks, adhesives, and sealants—including phenolic, urea-formaldehyde, furan, polyurethane, silicone, epoxy, polyester, and acrylic systems—to enhance the adhesion, corrosion resistance, weatherability, boil resistance, and scrub resistance of resin coatings, thereby extending service life and improving the dispersion and bonding of pigments and fillers within the resin matrix.

2. Used in resin-bonded sand casting and resin-based abrasives to improve the bonding strength and water resistance between the resin and silica sand or abrasive grains.

3. Used in plastics, rubber, resins, and low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) flame-retardant cable compounds filled with mineral fillers or glass fibers to improve the dispersion and bonding of fillers and fibers within the resin matrix.

4. Used for the surface treatment of inorganic mineral fillers, flame retardants, and glass fibers to enhance their dispersion, compatibility, bonding strength, and reinforcing effects within the resin matrix.
