(N,N-Dimethylaminopropyl)trimethoxysilane is a tertiary amino-functional silane. Due to the absence of active hydrogen on the tertiary amino group, it exhibits lower reactivity compared to primary or secondary amino silanes and shows virtually no tendency to yellow. Upon hydrolysis, its trimethoxysilyl groups form hydroxyl groups and release methanol as a byproduct. It is primarily used as an adhesion promoter in sealants; its amine structure—devoid of active protons—ensures excellent stability in single-component polyurethane, epoxy, and silicone adhesive systems. It is also used to synthesize silicone-based cationic bactericides, serves as a ligand for catalysts (particularly in organic synthesis reactions such as the Mitsunobu reaction and the synthesis of N-substituted amides), and acts as a reagent for synthesizing other organosilicon compounds.

Function

1. Used as an additive or formulated into primers for coatings, inks, adhesives, and sealants—including phenolic, urea-formaldehyde, furan, polyurethane, silicone, epoxy, nitrile, and acrylic systems—to enhance the adhesion, corrosion resistance, weatherability, boil resistance, and scrub resistance of resin coatings, thereby extending service life and improving the dispersion and bonding of pigments and fillers within the resin matrix.

2. Used in resin-bonded sand casting and resin-based abrasives to improve the bonding strength and water resistance between the resin and the silica sand or abrasive grains.

3. Used in plastics, rubbers, resins, and low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) flame-retardant cable compounds filled with mineral fillers or glass fibers to improve the dispersion and bonding of fillers and fibers within the resin matrix.

4. Used for the surface treatment of inorganic mineral fillers, flame retardants, and glass fibers to enhance their dispersion, compatibility, bonding strength, and reinforcing effects within the resin matrix.
