γ-Methacryloxypropylmethyldiethoxysilane is an organosilicon compound containing methacryloyloxy and diethoxymethylsilyl groups. It is typically a colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid at room temperature and is readily soluble in organic solvents.
As a reactive silane coupling agent, this compound plays a crucial role in connecting organic and inorganic materials at the interface. Its molecular structure contains two key reactive groups: one end is a hydrolyzable diethoxymethylsilyl group, which can react with the hydroxyl groups on the surface of inorganic fillers to form a strong chemical bond; the other end is a methacryloyloxy group containing a carbon-carbon double bond, which can participate in free radical polymerization reactions and graft copolymerize with unsaturated polyesters, acrylates, and other polymers. Therefore, it is widely used in glass fiber reinforced composites, coatings, adhesives, inks, and sealing materials, significantly improving the mechanical strength, water resistance, weather resistance, and adhesive properties of the products.

Function
In the field of composite materials, this coupling agent is mainly used for surface treatment of glass fibers and mineral fillers (such as silica, quartz powder, and clay). By modifying the filler surface, it can significantly improve the dispersibility and wettability of the filler in the resin matrix, thereby improving the mechanical strength, electrical properties, and moisture resistance of the composite material. It is particularly suitable for unsaturated polyester fiberglass, polyethylene/polypropylene filled composites, and wire and cable materials, effectively improving the impact resistance and environmental stress cracking resistance of the products.
This compound is an excellent adhesion promoter for acrylic coatings, UV-cured coatings, and adhesives. It can form a reactive interface layer on the surface of substrates (such as glass, metal, and concrete), bonding with the substrate through hydrolytic condensation and simultaneously bonding with the coating film through double bond copolymerization, thereby significantly improving the adhesion, water resistance, and scrub resistance of the coating. In adhesives, it can promote the adhesion between organic and inorganic materials and prevent peeling.
In addition to the above main applications, this substance can also be used as a functional monomer for inks and sealants, improving film hardness, gloss, and durability upon addition. In fiber modification, it can be used to treat specialty fibers, imparting surface reactivity to facilitate subsequent functionalization. Furthermore, it can be used to synthesize silicone oils containing methacryloxy groups, resulting in silicone oils with improved heat resistance and weather resistance.
