(3-Glycidoxypropyl)methyldiethoxysilane is primarily used to improve the adhesion and water resistance of water-based coatings and adhesives to substrates. Applicable resins include acrylic, styrene-butadiene, polyurethane waterborne dispersions, and waterborne epoxy resins. It enables a longer shelf life in waterborne resins, overcoming the shortcomings of ordinary silane coupling agents, such as self-isolation in water and short shelf life. It provides stable storage without yellowing and exhibits a bonding-promoting effect, while also enhancing physical properties in emulsions and waterborne adhesive/sealant systems.

Function

KH563 silane, as an adhesion promoter or crosslinking agent, can be used in the following water-based one-component systems:
1. Automotive laminating adhesives

2. Furniture laminating adhesives

3. Flocking adhesives

In these applications, KH563 silane can replace two-component water-based adhesives with one-component systems. The benefits of silane-crosslinked water-based one-component systems include reduced debris, improved process stability, and reduced crosslinking agent toxicity.

KH563 silane was specifically developed to enhance adhesive performance without negatively impacting the storage stability of adhesives or sealants. Generally, due to storage stability issues, silanes can only demonstrate their performance advantages in high-solids and solvent-based systems, limiting their use in acrylic emulsions. KH563 silane effectively eliminates this limitation, enabling future storage-stable silane crosslinking technologies and thus achieving excellent adhesive performance.

Traditional silane technologies have a negative impact on elongation, while KH563 silane maintains the elongation of the resin itself. While the effect of silane on elongation was improved, its improvement on tear strength was also retained.
