Function

Used in products such as rubber, plastics, fiberglass, coatings, adhesives, and sealants, this reactive and crosslinkable silane coupling agent functions as a fiberglass treatment agent and crosslinker. It is capable of hydrolysis under acidic or alkaline conditions and is widely applied in both natural and synthetic rubbers. Furthermore, acting as a reinforcing agent and crosslinking accelerator, it is utilized in composite materials (e.g., resin-fiberglass composites), coatings, inks, glues, and sealing materials; it also serves as a resin modification additive and an enzyme immobilization agent. It is frequently employed to treat inorganic fillers—such as SiO2 and carbon black—where, within polymers like rubber and silicone rubber, it acts as an activator, coupling agent, crosslinker, and reinforcing agent. Possessing a mercapto functional group, it demonstrates exceptional efficacy as a rust inhibitor for metal surfaces; when applied to treat metal surfaces—such as gold, silver, and copper—it enhances their corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance while simultaneously improving their adhesion to polymeric materials.

It enjoys widespread application in filled polymeric materials, being suitable for use with both thermosetting and thermoplastic polymers, including epoxies, nitriles, phenolics, PVC, polystyrene, polysulfones, and others.

It proves particularly effective within the rubber industry, where it enhances mechanical properties, improves abrasion resistance, and reduces permanent deformation. It is suitable for use with a wide range of rubbers, including NR, EPDM, SBR, polysulfide rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, nitrile rubber, neoprene, and polyurethane rubber.

Its applicability extends to a broad spectrum of inorganic fillers, encompassing silicon-containing substances such as fiberglass, precipitated silica, quartz powder, talc, mica, fly ash, clay, and kaolin.
