Crystal violet lactone (CVL) is a common purple dye with a triarylmethane chemical structure. After undergoing a ring-opening chemical change, it forms a unique large conjugated structure, causing most of its light absorption to fall within the visible light region at around 600 nm, thus exhibiting a vibrant blue-violet color. As an important functional dye, it has the advantages of rapid color development, high chroma, and good oil solubility, and has been widely used in the production of pressure-sensitive and thermosensitive materials.

CVL is a good thermal and pressure sensitive dye which has the following advantages:discoloration fast and high chromaticity and
oil-soluble, widely used in the commercial invoice, computer output terminal summons,information records,etc.
General dye is colored conjugated system in addition to the CVL. CVL can be used as a thermal and pressure sensitive dye, its
conjugated system is interrupted. So CVL has no color. But it will be colored with the effect of chromogenic agent. Under acid
condition, CVL will show violet color(bright, high concentrations).
CVL is an important functional dye in the production of pressure-sensitive materials or heat sensitive materials.
