In perfumery, Galaxolide frequently serves as a core component of base note formulations, with usage levels often reaching 20–25%. It imparts a warm, sweet, and long-lasting quality to a fragrance, and is commonly utilized in Oriental, Floral, and modern Chypre perfumes.
Given the scarcity of natural musk resources—which are also subject to strict legal protection—Galaxolide has emerged as a primary substitute for natural musk. It replicates the characteristic “animalic” quality of natural musk while circumventing the ethical and legal risks associated with the use of products derived from endangered species.
In the pharmaceutical sector, Galaxolide is also incorporated into certain topical ointments and stimulants.
