Lithium carbonate is a common inorganic lithium salt with the chemical formula Li₂CO₃, a molecular weight of 73.891, a density of 2.11 g/cm³, a melting point of 720℃, and a boiling point of 1342℃. Lithium carbonate typically appears as colorless monoclinic crystals or a white powder, is slightly soluble in water and dilute acids, and insoluble in ethanol and acetone. Its thermal stability is lower than that of carbonates of other elements in the same group of the periodic table. It does not deliquesce in air, is resistant to moisture, and is easy to store and transport. It can be used as a raw material in ceramics, glass, ferrites, etc., for silver paste coating of components, and in medicine for treating depression.

Function

The upstream of the lithium carbonate industry chain involves raw material extraction, primarily through lithium mines and salt lakes. Lithium mines mainly produce spodumene and lepidolite ore.

The midstream of the industry chain mainly consists of lithium salt products, including lithium hydroxide obtained from spodumene ore, which is then processed to produce industrial-grade and battery-grade lithium carbonate; industrial-grade and battery-grade lithium carbonate are also produced from lepidolite ore; and industrial-grade lithium carbonate and lithium chloride can be obtained from salt lake brine, with lithium chloride being recycled to obtain metallic lithium.

The downstream of the industry chain mainly involves industrial-grade and battery-grade lithium carbonate used in the preparation of various lithium battery cathode materials and the production of electrolytes. End-user consumption primarily includes new energy vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles, 3C electronics, and energy storage.
