Bis(triethoxysilylpropyl)disulfide (Si75) is a multifunctional organosilane coupling agent and rubber/tire additive that has been successfully applied within the rubber industry. Its function is to enhance the elastic modulus and tensile strength of rubber, significantly improving its abrasion resistance and compression properties, while simultaneously reducing rubber viscosity and conserving processing energy. Si75 is ideally suited for rubber formulations utilizing hydroxyl-containing fillers within polymer systems containing double bonds or blends thereof. Applicable fillers include precipitated silica, silicates, chalk, and others; applicable rubber polymers include Natural Rubber (NR), Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR), Isoprene Rubber (IR), Butadiene Rubber (BR), Nitrile Rubber (NBR), and Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM), among others. Compared to Si69, Si75 offers superior scorch safety due to the lower reactivity of its disulfide functional groups.

Function

In the rubber industry, Si75 is primarily utilized in conjunction with fillers such as precipitated silica, silicates, and chalk. It is suitable for use with a wide range of rubber materials, including natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), polyisoprene rubber, polybutadiene rubber, nitrile rubber (NBR), and ethylene-propylene-diene monomer (EPDM) rubber. Compared to Si69, Si75 features less reactive disulfide functional groups, thereby offering enhanced scorch safety.

In the field of surface coatings, the incorporation of Si75 serves to improve a coating’s adhesion, abrasion resistance, and weather resistance. When added to water-based polyurethane coatings, it significantly enhances adhesion and abrasion resistance; conversely, when incorporated into solvent-based polyurethane coatings, it markedly improves weather resistance and chemical resistance.

In the realm of asphalt mixtures, utilizing Si75 as an additive improves the durability and shear resistance of the mixture, while also enhancing its resistance to oxidation and aging.

Furthermore, Si75 demonstrates potential for application in the field of electronic materials. When combined with carbon fiber composites, it can significantly boost both the thermal stability and mechanical properties of the material. Additionally, it can function as a surface treatment agent for metals, thereby enhancing the corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance of metallic materials.
