Sodium dioctyl succinate sulfonate is a non-irritating laxative and a surfactant. After oral administration, it promotes the penetration of water and fatty substances into the feces, thereby softening the stool. Sodium dioctyl succinate sulfonate is absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration. It exerts its therapeutic effect on constipation 1–3 days after oral administration. The drug is primarily excreted via bile.

Sodium docusate’s wetting properties accelerate the penetration of the dissolving medium into the particles and ensure the homogeneity of poorly wetting APIs in excipient mixtures (valsartan tablets, candesartan cilexetil tablets). Sodium docusate synergistically enhances the dissolution of hydrophobic APIs with other polymers or solubilizers, improving processing performance.

Sodium docusate particles improve powder dispersion and dissolution, acting as a hydrophilic wetting agent (fenofibrate orally disintegrating tablets), enabling rapid disintegration and dissolution.

Using sodium docusate increases drug dissolution in solid dispersions (hot melt extrusion processes), improving formulation dissolution rates and bioavailability (tacrolimus, ritonavir).

It is a compressible dissolution accelerator, acting as a gliding agent to give powders good flowability and compressibility.

It is a powerful microparticle suspension stabilizer, preventing the aggregation of proteins or peptides in intramuscularly injected drugs.
