Methylbenzotriazole, abbreviated as TTA, is a white granular or powdery substance that is prone to moisture absorption. It is a mixture of 4-methylbenzotriazole and 5-methylbenzotriazole; it is sparingly soluble in water, soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, benzene, toluene, and chloroform, and soluble in dilute alkaline solutions.

This product is primarily used as a rust and corrosion inhibitor for metals (such as silver, copper, lead, nickel, and zinc). It is widely employed in anti-rust oils and greases, and frequently used as a vapor-phase corrosion inhibitor for copper and copper alloys, a lubricant additive, a circulating water treatment agent, and an automotive antifreeze.

It can also be used in combination with various scale inhibitors and biocides/algaecides, demonstrating excellent corrosion inhibition, particularly in closed-loop circulating cooling water systems.
