Silane coupling agent KH-791, chemically known as N-(β-aminoethyl)-γ-aminopropyltriethoxysilane, is a diamino-functional silane coupling agent. Classified as a γ-functional silane, its molecular structure contains both hydrolyzable ethoxy groups and reactive amino groups, enabling the formation of chemical bonds between inorganic materials (such as glass and metal oxides) and organic polymers (such as epoxy and phenolic resins). As a significant industrial additive, KH-791 is widely used in applications including glass fiber-reinforced plastics, sealants, coatings, and adhesives, primarily to enhance the physical-mechanical properties, water resistance, and aging resistance of composite materials.

In the fiberglass-reinforced plastic (FRP) industry, KH-791 serves as a crucial surface treatment agent for glass fibers. It significantly enhances the bonding strength between glass fibers and matrix resins—such as epoxy and polyester—effectively preventing debonding and delamination during mechanical loading or aging, thereby improving the product’s tensile, flexural, and interlaminar shear strengths. Additionally, it is widely used for the surface modification of inorganic fillers like glass microspheres, silica, talc, and mica, improving their dispersion and stability within plastic and rubber matrices.
In the fields of sealants and adhesives, KH-791 is frequently added as an adhesion promoter to single- or two-component sealant systems based on polyurethane, polysulfide, or epoxy. Typically used at a dosage of 0.5% to 1.0% of the total sealant weight, it significantly boosts adhesion to various substrates—including glass, aluminum, steel, and concrete—ensuring the long-term reliability of the sealed structure.
Regarding coatings and pigments, KH-791 functions as both a pigment dispersant and an adhesion promoter. In waterborne and powder coatings, it reduces the tendency of inorganic pigments (such as silica matting agents) to agglomerate, thereby enhancing dispersion stability within the resin matrix. It also strengthens the coating’s adhesion to metal or plastic substrates and improves water and weather resistance. Furthermore, it can be used to modify waterborne polyurethane resins for the production of high-performance water-based inks and leather finishing agents.
