Glycerol ester of rosin, also known as ester gum or glyceryl rosin ester, is a polyol ester produced by the esterification reaction of rosin and glycerol. As one of the main products of deep processing of rosin, rosin ester overcomes the shortcomings of raw rosin, such as high acid value, easy crystallization, and poor weather resistance, and has the characteristics of low acid value, high softening point, good antioxidant properties, and excellent compatibility.

In the food industry, rosin glycerol esters are primarily used as a food additive, and their production and use must comply with GB 10287-2012 standards. It is one of the essential raw materials for chewing gum and bubble gum.
In the hot melt adhesive field, it is widely used in EVA hot melt adhesives and polyamide hot melt adhesives. Due to its good compatibility and tack, it can significantly improve the initial tack and holding power of the adhesive, improve the peel strength of the bonded materials, and make the adhesion stronger.
In pressure-sensitive adhesive products, such as self-adhesive labels, tapes, and tag adhesives, the addition of rosin glycerol esters can enhance the cohesiveness and adhesion of the adhesive film, ensuring that the product is less prone to delamination during use.
In solvent-based all-purpose adhesives and laminating adhesives, it can also enhance the adhesion to difficult-to-bond substrates.
In the manufacture of coatings and inks, rosin glycerol esters are often used as a modifier. Adding rosin glycerol esters to alkyd and phenolic resin varnishes can improve the hardness, gloss, water resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance of the coating film, making the coating more durable.
In the printing ink industry, especially in solvent-based gravure and offset inks, it is used as a binder to improve ink drying speed, enhance ink adhesion to paper and other substrates, and ensure print quality.
